Accountability Grindgat Zwemmers, let's keep it tidy and safe.

This staircase was created at the initiative of the Grindgat swimmers. Use it thoughtfully. Dismount and swim in the Meuse at your own risk. Diving and jumping is not possible due to shallow water and possible invisible objects underwater. Be aware that you will be swimming in unattended natural water. There are risks associated with this. Follow the rules and be aware of other water users such as rowers and (motor) boats. Realize that it is forbidden to swim in canals and in the waterways of rivers. We would like to point out that it is prohibited to swim in rivers or canals in Belgium. The other side of the Meuse is Belgium. According to our interpretation, you can swim to the right until the last buoy (before the entrance to the Grindgat) and you can swim to the left until the entrance to the harbor of Watersportvereniging Eijsden. Inform yourself via: Article 6.33c Shipping Regulations Common Maas. You cannot derive any rights from this page of the Grindgat swimmers in the event of a disagreement with enforcers about your swimming rights.

Always display a flag when you go swimming so that the rowers know you are there! And inform yourself via Rijkswaterstaat how the current is.

Where can you find the stairs?

The stairs can be reached via the Eijsderbeemden by parking in the parking lot at the end of Kasteellaan in Oost-Maarland. From there you enter the nature reserve and follow the path straight to the Maas. When you arrive at the Maas you will see a large sign with a 9 on your right. At that sign you will find the stairs.

During the period when the Grindgat has too much blue-green algae, the Grindgat Swimmers swim in the Maas. They hang out the flag so that the MWC rowers know we are there. Everything for safety.
